ThornCreek Church (TC) is a church for people who don’t have it “all together” and for those who consider themselves “followers of Christ”. All its ministries and resources have been strategically designed for the “busy” people who live in the north Denver area. TC wants these people to experience firsthand the life Jesus Christ promised (John 10:10). Below is a TIME LINE of how God has moved in the life of TC. See what God has done in such a short time!
In September 2002, Pastor Ruben Villarreal moved from Colorado Springs to Thornton, Colorado with his wife, Grace, and their two-year-old son. God gave them a burden and a vision to start a church for self-sufficient people who did not know Jesus Christ at a life-changing level, did not understand how the bible applies to their everyday life, nor did they see the relevance of attending a local church on a weekly basis. It was with this passion that ThornCreek Church (TC) was born.
In February 2003, TC had its first “core” meeting at the Fairfield Inn in Broomfield, CO. There were a total of seven people that showed up. That was over 100% growth! Preparations were underway for Launch Day!
On April 20, 2003, TC launched it’s first “public” worship experience. 150 people were in attendance and most were strangers. This service took place at the Training Center in Adams County School District Headquarters. It was the beginning!
On July 20, 2003, TC moved to an office building (Autotrol Corp.) located at 126th St. and Washington St. It was a huge step of faith! This office building became 24/7 space for TC for the next nine (9) years. During these nine (9) years God grew TC, and many ministry programs were birthed.
On August 12, 2012, TC moved out of the “Autotrol” building and became a “portable church”. This was prompted by new ownership of the Autotrol building. TC started to do worship services out of Stargate Charter School on weekends, and inherited a small church, which became the 24/7 office space for TC staff. God was watching after TC! This new office space shares the same parking lot with Stargate School, which is a great blessing. During this time, God made TC even stronger.
To date…TC has more than 1,000 people that call it their “home church”. Hundreds have come to know Christ as savior, and hundreds have been baptized. Glory to God! Additionally, TC started a weekday preschool program for the community, partners with south Thornton schools to “Feed 5000” people every November, started a new church in south Thornton (Hope Hacienda), and helps regionally with disaster relief efforts. On a global level, a long-term partnership was established with a church and village in Negritos, Peru, through Compassion International.
